ISRO's Challenge to Make a Life Support System for Gaganyaan
Despite many successful launches this year India's space agency has been denied the technology needed to build the Life Support System for its Gaganyaan mission.
ISRO Chairman S. Somanath has indicated that the space agency will design the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) for the forthcoming Gaganyaan mission.
Somanath has emphasized ISRO's lack of experience in ECLSS development, citing the agency's traditional concentration on rocket and satellite design.
The Gaganyaan project seeks to demonstrate India's capability in human spaceflight by launching a crew into a 400-kilometer orbit by 2025.
ISRO's dedication to indigenous development, using existing expertise and local industry, was emphasized by Somanath.
